Workshops for Hospitals and Businesses:

Peggy Huddleston's "Prepare For Surgery, Heal Faster" ™ Workshop

Presented by Don Cohen, LMSW, certified trainer

Learn Mind-Body Techniques to:

  • Feel calmer before surgery
  • Have less pain after surgery
  • Reduce side effects of radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy

An analysis of 191 research studies with 8,600 patients documents that people who prepared for surgery had less pain, fewer complications and recovered sooner. In addition, by using Prepare for Surgery’s five-step program before a procedure, your patient or staff person will feel more relaxed and confident about a positive outcome. They’ll learn simple relaxation and visualization techniques, self-advocacy tips and ways to build a support system.

The fee for a 90-minute workshop, which includes a copy of Peggy Huddleston's book "Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster" and Relaxation CD is $150 per person.

Workshops are given in person, by phone or web cam. A family member or friend may accompany your staff person for no additional cost.

Stress Management Techniques That Really Work!

The art of stress management is founded upon the principle of learning to balance the level of stimulation in our lives, not about trying to eliminate stress. This workshop will help your staff and clients discover how paying attention to their breathing style is one of the most effective pathways to deepen relaxation. They will learn simple yet powerful breathing exercises that will leave them feeling relaxed, focused and centered.

"Thoroughly enjoyable and definitely 'on target'. Don's expertise enabled us to develop a wonderful and engaging series on stress management. Involved. Pragmatic. Adaptable." Penny Merkel, RN, Ogilvy

"Thanks very much for an enlightening, entertaining and entirely useful presentation. I've already begun to put into practice the techniques you discussed, with positive results." B. F., Managing Director, investment banking firm

Has Stress Become a Serious Workplace Issue for Your Company?

Would You Like to Help Your Employees:

  • Perform more productively with renewed vigor?
  • Become better presenters and public speakers?
  • Feel better mentally and physically?

It's now widely accepted that stress takes a heavy toll on your employees' ability to concentrate and work productively. Most importantly, constant pressure on the job affects your employees' health and sense of well being.

Unquestionably, many people have found that their daily stress levels have greatly increased over the past year. As a result, many have been looking for constructive ways to cope with their anxiety about the economy, their jobs and lives outside of the workplace.

Now you can help your employees by providing a program with proven stress reduction techniques that they can integrate during their workday. Your staff will learn pragmatic techniques that can be used while giving a big presentation, in an important meeting or simply to relieve the tension of a pressure-packed day!

FAQ: "As the head of Human Resources for my company, I'd like to learn more about your stress management workshops. Specifically, I'm interested in hearing about any methods that would be helpful for our employees while 'on the job.' Do you have any suggestions?"

Yes, I teach stress reduction techniques that people stay with precisely because the methods are easy to incorporate into their workday. Clients learn how to apply the techniques in the moment to stressful situations and report that they notice benefits rapidly with practice.

We focus on working with the most important tool we have, one we take for granted 22,000 times a day - our breath. Breathing exercises have become quite mainstream through yoga instruction, but the techniques you'll learn have actually been in existence for thousands of years as a stand-alone practice.

What Are the Practical Benefits of Breathing Techniques?

  • A new sense of calm.
  • More energy.
  • Increased capacity to focus and concentrate more fully.
  • Improved ability to think on one's feet.
  • Enhanced public speaking skills.
  • Development of anger management skills.
  • Improvement of individual's health: lower blood pressure and heart rate.

The Program

Three Segments Over a 3-Month Period

Segment I: 1 hour - 1 ½ hours

In this large-group opening session, we'll begin with the "how to" of incorporating basic breathing exercises into one's daily regimen. Our breath is simply one of the most effective tools we have to manage stress. Taking deep, slow breaths helps to center and ground us, particularly when feeling a lot of stress. We'll learn "The New York Minute" and "Balloon" exercises and more.

We'll also discuss identification of job stressors, how to recognize stress early in the process, basic physiology, and "stress emergency techniques."

Segment II: 1 hour: three weeks later

This session is designed for the people who find these techniques helpful and have begun incorporating them into their daily regimen. We will meet again to discuss their experiences and questions that have arisen. We will then introduce intermediate levels exercises to deepen their practice.

Segment III: 1 Private Session, ½ hour each attendee

Over the next 60 days, private sessions will be scheduled to work with those interested in incorporating advanced techniques.

As a presenter in business for 20 years, I make these sessions relaxed, fun and motivational.

Results are best with all three segments extended over a 3-month period.

Call 212-288-1929 for more information, including the fee for the package of all three segments.
