| About Don Cohen
Don Cohen is a psychotherapist, stress management coach, counselor and
writer with 15 years of professional experience in the healthcare field.
Don works with individuals in short-term crisis counseling and ongoing psychotherapy settings. One area of
focus is support of people who live with chronic illness. In addition,
- Don has presented workshops in New York City on "Stress Management Techniques That Really
Work!" to Wall Street investment banking and advertising firms and "Taking Charge: Mind/Body Preparation for
Surgery" and "Finding Peace: Coping
with Chronic Illness" at Mt. Sinai Hospital, The Hospital for Joint
Diseases, Samaritan Village and HealingWorks.
- In his private practice in New York City, Don works with clients who
have been in "talk therapy" for many years and are seeking complementary
ways to understand the issues that are blocks to feeling happy and fully
alive. His work blends traditional "talk therapy" with modalities like
Gestalt therapy, Jungian dream analysis, guided visualization, and
meditation instruction.
- Don sees many clients with business careers who want to resolve
interpersonal issues that arise in the workplace, are seeking more
fulfillment in their careers, and would like to focus on ways to remove
roadblocks to success.
- He works with individuals preparing for surgery and their families who
want to support them. Research shows that people who actively get involved
with their own preparation fare much better during and after surgery. Don's
techniques help people feel more relaxed and confident about their upcoming
procedure.
Don received his B.A. in psychology from Bucknell University, his MSW from
the Hunter College School of Social Work with a mental health concentration
and also graduated from the Helix Training Institute of Psychotherapy. He
is writing a book on "Mind/Body Preparation for Surgery." Don is married
and lives in New York City.
